*In the fourth episode of the F1 podcast, CAR journalists Nikesh Kooverjee and Sean Parker look back at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and ahead to this weekend’s French Grand Prix.
Formula 1 returns to the Paul Ricard circuit for this weekend’s French Grand Prix, the first since 2019 given that last year’s race was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The drivers come off the back of two street races in Monaco and Azerbaijan and once again this weekend’s race is likely to be tussle between title fighters Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Both drivers failed to score points in Baku after the Dutchman suffered a rear left tyre blowout down the main straight while in a commanding lead of the race. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll’s left rear tyre suffered a blowout which lead to an investigation by tyre supplier Pirelli.
Hamilton had his own problems in Azerbaijan when he locked up his brakes and overshot the first at the restart and effectively handed the victory to Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez.
The Paul Ricard will favour high-powered cars and we’re likely to see Mercedes back on the podium after failing to do so in the last two races, however the Red Bull duo are in a rich reign of form and will pose a challenge to Hamilton and co.
