The Polestar 2 range has been expanded with two more accessible variants which features a smaller battery, lower power output, single-motor and shorter list of standard features in order to broaden its accessibility in the European market.
With the addition of these new trims, the Polestar 2 now boasts a starting price of €40 000 (approximately R695 000) which makes it somewhat more accessible for those who want to buy into the premium electric segment.
The new entry-level model sports a standard single motor on the front axle that produces 165 kW and 330 N.m of torque. Its 64 kWh battery is able to carry drivers for a claimed 420 km before needing to be recharged. Sitting right above this is another front-wheel driven derivative which pushes 170 kW and 330 N.m. This uses a 78 kWh batter which gives it a minimum claimed range of 515 km. Interestingly, this is higher than the range-topping 300 kW dual-motor driven flagship model.
Despite having different levels of standard specification, all three trims will be largely indistinguishable from one another. All cars will come fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels, signature LED head- and taillamp designs and the brand’s signature frameless mirrors.
For the lower trim models, two optional packages will be available to consumers who want to up the level of luxury. The Plus Pack includes a full-length panoramic glass roof, premium Harman Kardon audio system with 13 speakers, WeaveTech vegan upholstery, Black Ash deco panels, fully-electric heated front seats with memory function, heated rear seats, steering wheel and wiper blades and a new heat pump which reduces the reliance on the battery pack to keep the cabin warm.
With the Pilot Pack, the Polestar 2 inherits enhanced safety and driver assistance features, such as the Pixel LED headlamps with LED front foglamps, driver assistance with adaptive cruise control and pilot assist, a 360-degree surround view camera, all-round parking sensors, and driver awareness including blind spot information system with steering intervention, cross traffic alert with brake support and rear collision warning.
