Originally launched in 2006 as a potent mid-engine sports car, the Audi R8 evolved on several occasions in two generations but the nameplate is being laid to rest. So where did it start? The model initially featured a 4,2-liter V8 but the lineup expanded with a formidable 5,2-liter V10 borrowed from Lamborghini. Notable updates in the first generation included the introduction of high-performance variants such as the R8 GT and the convertible R8 Spyder.

In 2012, a significant facelift brought aesthetic improvements, including updated headlights and a redesigned grille. The V10 Plus model also debuted during this period, showcasing enhanced power and a lighter chassis for superior performance.

The second generation eventually arrived in 2015 as an evolution of the supercar recipe and maintained the R8’s reputation for blending performance and luxury. This era included various models like the standard R8 V10 and the convertible R8 Spyder. Special edition releases, such as the limited R8 Decennium celebrating a decade of the V10 engine added exclusivity to the lineup and while there have been some impressive and limited editions over the past two years to celebrate its looming death. Possibly one of the finals of the moniker is the R8 Japan Final Edition.
