Porsche presented its first fully-electric sports car to the public in 2019 with a spectacular world premiere held simultaneously on three continents. Three years later, after production first started at the Zuffunhausen plant, the novel model has managed to hit the momentous milestone of 100 000 units with a Taycan Turbo S wearing Neptune blue paintwork.
“The Taycan links our heritage to the future. It carries forward the success story of our brand, a brand that has fascinated and thrilled the world over for more than 70 years,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, who opened the world premiere in Berlin.
The milestone came to life on the 7th of November 2022, marking three years of EV production for the Stuttgart-based firm. What culminated as the milestone was a Taycan Turbo S finished in Neptune blue with the four-door sports sedan expected to make its way to its UK-based owner. The Taycan Turbo S can generate up to 560 kW of power and 1 050 N.m of torque, with a top speed of 260 km/h meaning it has the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2,8 seconds. The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric vehicles which is a real world advantage. In just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged using direct current (DC) from the high-power charging network for a range of up to 100 kilometres.
The Taycan is offered in three distinct body styles, the Sedan, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo with each featuring up to five drivetrain options, including rear and all-wheel drive. Aiding the 100 000 milestone are its largest markets around the world including the United States, China, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Inside the Porsche Taycan, there is a new design system that offers an entirely leather-free interior. Cabins are constructed from innovative recycled materials to continue the sustainable concept of the electric sports car. A central 10,9-inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look. All user interfaces have been completely newly designed for the Taycan. The number of classic hardware controls such as switches and buttons has been greatly reduced. Instead, control is intelligent and intuitive – using touch operation or the voice control function, which responds to the command “Hey Porsche”.
