After years of spyshots and speculation, the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS has been confirmed by the Stuttgart manufacturer having proven its mettle during final testing “on twisty mountain roads and on the racetrack.”
Set to make its world premiere in November 2021, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS will take over the top-dog reigns from the GT4 as the flagship of the 718 range. Development driver Jörg Bergmeister lapped the 20-kilometre Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a lightly disguised production car, setting a blistering lap time of 7 minutes and 04,511 seconds, an astonishing 23,6 seconds faster than the 718 Cayman GT4.
The vehicle was fitted with a racing seat and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres which will be optionally available when the GT4 RS goes into production.
Andreas Preuninger, Porsche’s Director GT Model Line said, “During development, we gave the 718 Cayman GT4 RS everything that characterises a genuine RS: lightweight construction, more downforce, more power and, of course, an even higher level of responsiveness and feedback to driver inputs. The fantastic lap time of the Nordschleife is impressive proof of how clearly noticeable these improvements in driving dynamics are.”
Driver Jörg Bergmeister noted that the GT4 RS is “one of the sharpest cars Porsche has ever developed” having devoted more than 500 hours to the development of the Cayman GT4 RS.
There is no confirmation on local availability just yet, but we will have clarity on that once the vehicle debuts and market allocation has been decided on.
