Porsche will reportedly lift the wraps off an advanced, all-electric compact sports saloon that will preview the Panamera’s little brother – the Porsche Panjun – in September.
The precursor to the Pajun (Porsche parlance for ‘Panamera junior) will make an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show and could incorporate styling cues from the company’s 2012 Panamera Sport Turismo concept. Reports have also suggested that the Sport Turismo’s dimensions 4,8-metre length – versus the Panamera’s 5,0 metres – will give some suggestion as to the Pajun’s overall size.
The concept will be underpinned by a modified version of the VW Group’s MSB platform – a front-engine, rear-wheel drive foundation. Dubbed eMSB, it will reportedly support a low-sited, rear-mounted electric powertrain that doesn’t require any major modifications to the standard platform, making it a fairly cost-effective setup.
Similarly, the powertrain architecture will also allow for minimal modifications that will allow it to accommodate both battery-fed and fuel cell-based systems. Outputs are still some way in the offing, but a figure of around 360 kW along with an operating range of around 400 km for the battery-powered model.
Production has been slated for 2017 with a likely 2018 debut
