The facelifted Audi Q2 has been launched in South Africa, sporting a few subtle exterior revisions and rejigged equipment levels in the form of new options packs.
Audi has also dropped the 1,0-litre, three-cylinder turbopetrol base engine from the line-up, leaving the 1.4-litre turbopetrol (badged 35 TFSI) as the only available power source. As before this unit produces 110 kW and 250 Nm and according to Audi it is good for an 8,8 second 0-100 km/h sprint. The only gearbox option is an eight-speed automatic unit.
Dropping the base engine has pushed the Audi Q2 starting price up from R504 000 to R545 500, but the carmaker is selling a limited number of 35 TFSI Launch Edition models at R519 500, which isn’t too much of a stretch from the previous entry version.
What’s new?
Exterior design changes are subtle, and they include a lower single-frame grille as well as redesigned headlight innards and and more angular lower mock air inlets, which have a pentagonal shape. This is mimicked at the back end, where you’ll see a reshaped diffuser with similar motifs.
A total of five new exterior colours have become available with the new Q2, including the striking Apple Green, which is available on an Audi for the first time. Other new hues include Turbo Blue, Navarra Blue, Arrow Grey and Manhattan Grey.
There’s little to tell the 2021 Audi Q2’s cabin apart from its predecessor’s, except for the slightly retouched round air vents and gear lever knob.
Three trim grades
Customers can choose from three trim grades, each boasting different design features. The standard model rolls on 16-inch alloy wheels and the blade is in body colour. The Advanced trim line gains 17-inch alloys, Manhattan Grey blade and bumpers in contrasting grey paint. Inside the Advanced model boasts sports seats upholstered in ‘Index’ fabric. Move up to the S Line and you gain 18-inch wheels, Platinum Grey blade and sports suspension.
Standard features in the Q2 include the Audi Music Interface, automatic climate control, cruise control, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, progressive steering, rear parking aid and LED headlights.
But few buyers are going to resist the long options list, and here Audi is making your life (and its life) a bit simpler by offering four distinct equipment packages: Comfort Package, Tech Package, Black Styling Package and S Line Interior Package.
All Audi Q2 models are sold with a five-year Audi Freeway Plan.
