The Mercedes-AMG GLE53 SUV and Coupe have finally arrived in SA, over a year after pricing was initially announced. The entry-level engine to the AMG range, slotting bellow the GLE63 S, does see an increase in price since the initial announcement.
For the traditional SUV, The GLE53’s price starts at R1 851 280 while the Coupe will set you back R1 939 040. Both models feature the brand’s twin-scroll turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six engine which sends 320 kW and 520 N.m of torque to all four wheels via the 4Matic+ system and nine-speed automatic transmission. An additional 16 kW and 250 N.m are provided by the EQ Boost starter generator.
Standard kit on the GLE53 includes ambient lighting for the cabin, a Nappa leather AMG performance steering wheel, a trailer coupling, 20-inch twin-five-spoke alloy wheels and Thermatic climate control. Available optionally are features such as head-up display (R19 600), AMG high-performance braking system (R46 600), AMG performance exhaust system (R22 400), Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system (R89 400) and the AMG dynamic plus package which includes active ride control (R89 500).
For the sake of comparison, the aforementioned GLE63 S, which uses the twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 delivering 460 kW and 800 N.m of torque to all-four paws in SUV and Coupe guise feature starting prices of R2 907 440 and R2 970 920 respectively.
