South African company Ulterio Motiv has showcased its Toyota Land Cruiser 79 6×6 conversion in Cape Town. See pricing below.
South African armoured-vehicle specialist SVI Engineering’s sister company, Ulterio Motiv, which specialises in six-wheel conversions for both commercial and recreational use, has showcased its six-wheeled Land Cruiser bakkie at a recent event in Cape Town. Built to represent the ultimate 70-series Land Cruiser, Ulterio Motiv’s Land Cruiser 79 6×6 was designed for as a bespoke vehicle for camping, off-roading, and emergency services.
The six-wheel-drive Land Cruiser 79 features three differential locks – two standard and one on-demand for the third axle – to prevent wheel spin when going off the beaten track. To improve braking, an upgraded hydraulically-assisted brake booster can be specified as an (R18 950, excl. VAT) option. Suspension and components from Ironman 4×4 are also available at additional cost.
The 6×6 conversion increases the Land Cruiser 79’s gross vehicle mass to 6 080 kg, making it 2 850 kg heftier than the bakkie it is based on – in this case, the 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel double-cab 79. As a reminder, the GD-6 unit, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, produces 150 kW and 500 N.m of torque. As such, you’ll need a code C1 (previously code 10) driver’s license to drive this beefed-up bakkie on public roads. The loading capacity has also increased, to 2 980 kg.

So, how much does the conversion package cost? Well, as you may have noted, Ulterio Motiv also offers a 6×4 conversion, which is priced from R389 950 (excl. VAT). The 6×6 conversion is priced from R895 000 (excl. VAT). So, equipped with the 6×4 and 6×6 packages, the Land Cruiser 79 2.8GD-6 double-cab, with a starting price of R1 097 400, will set you back R1 487 350 (6×4) and R1 992 400 (6×6). It is worth noting, the 6×4 conversion can also be had with the single-cab Land Cruiser bakkie.

In addition to the mechanical upgrades, the 6×6 conversion includes updates to the cabin, such as leather trim interior, alcantara headliner and the fitment of a reverse-view camera.
