After what feels like an eternity of teaser images and spy shots, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess has confirmed via Twitter that “the legend returns” on the 9th of March 2022. While he may not mention the name ID. Buzz by name, the digital sketch revealing the electric van all but confirms that it is the ID. Buzz to which he refers. Come the 9th of March 2022, the distinctively styled van will lose its colourful and stripey camouflage.

The 8th of January 2022 marks four years to the day since the ID. Buzz was unveiled, a vehicle that has certainly taken the scenic route to production, although, knowing Volkswagen Group – if Mission-E to Taycan was anything to go by – the wait will most certainly have been worth it.
Remarkably, the production version doesn’t look all that different from the original two tone yellow and white concept. A similarly flat nose, high-mounted headlights and a large glasshouse have all been carried over from the concept and we already know that European markets will even see the introduction of a cargo version sans rear windows, as well as an ID. Buzz variation on the ever-perennial camper van theme.
While rumours suggest versions with up to 300 kW and all-wheel drive, we can only wait for the final details, figures and facts when the long-awaited people-mover is unveiled in roughly two-months’ time.
