The Range Rover convertible puts an end to the days when these types of cars were reserved for men. Jaguar tap into this growing market, targeted at women!
Jaguar’s Range Rover convertible is the world’s first compact 4×4 cabriolet. It has 500 pre-orders in the UK alone, since its unveiling in November – many of which are from women!
A spokesman for the carmaker said:
"It’s an incredible level of demand for the first Range Rover convertible from Land Rover -“ especially as the order books do not even open officially until the spring."
Some of the Range Rover convertible’s success may be due to the fold-back soft top, which made it a hit with a certain Bond Girl.
The Evoque Convertible was unveiled by Naomie Harris, who plays Miss Moneypenny alongside Daniel Craig’s 007.
She said:
"Moneypenny driving an Evoque Convertible? I think she has this kind of alter-ego which is really glamorous.
She’d absolutely love it. Driving around with the top down and the wind blowing in my hair, the sun shining, great music playing, I would be having a ball."
Jaguar Land Rover stated that a trend starting with the original hard-top Evoque, shows a much higher proportion of interest coming from women. Accounting for 40% of all sales for that model, which may not seem that much, but it shows a significant shift away from the traditional rugged image that the Land Rover usually inspires.
The folding roof is the widest and longest on any vehicle currently available. The Range Rover convertible can fold its roof away in just 18 seconds and put it back up again in just 21 seconds, while travelling at speeds of up to 48km/h!
The fastest version of the Range Rover convertible is powered by a 177kW 2-litre turbopetrol engine. Able to go from 0-100km/h in only 8.6 seconds. Land Rover are also offering two brand new 2-litre Ingenium turbodiesel engines, for those with a more frugal mindset.
The Range Rover convertible is designed for the city, as opposed to the countryside, however it does come with Land Rover’s permanent all-wheel drive transmission and Terrain Response System. Making it more than capable if you do find yourself out in nature!
With the SUV market forecasted to grow by up to 20% over the next 5 years, this model should help fuel that growth.
The Land Rover convertible or Evoque Convertible, is expected to reach South Africa towards the end of 2016.
