The Scenic and Grand Scenic as we know them are officially dead, but Renault may have just made a cool crossover that shares their name. It is only a concept but the Scenic Vision looks remarkably cool enough to do school lifts and grocery runs in.
The concept which is expected to debut in 2024 on the same CMF-EV platform that has underpinned the Nissan Ariya is no longer a people moving minivan but rather an electric crossover. The latest rendition of the reputable nameplate will make use of the same Megane E-Tech electric motor which is good for 164 kW and will also carry over the 40-kWh battery. An underfloor-mounted 16 kW fuel cell is also part of some of the running gear.
The Scenic Vision will weigh in at 1,700 kg which is reasonably light for an electric crossover but obviously heavier than the Megane E-Tech on which it shares many of its mechanical components. The concept also boasts a “vision” hydrogen range extender although this may not feature on the production models which are a few years away from launch.
To continue with the environmentally friendly theme, Renault has also created the Scenic Vision using sustainable production methods and materials. Up to 70% of the model is created from recycled materials while future thinking means that it is also 95% recyclable once it reaches the end of its product life cycle. The fuel cell tank for example, is manufactured from recycled paper waste while the interior rejects the use of leather in favour of recycled low carbon polyester. The pedantic focus on sustainability has also warranted that black pigments in the paint are a byproduct of processed particles captured in the atmosphere.
While this will continue the reign of the existing MPV Scenic and Grand Scenic, if the production model looks only half as cool as this, it may make sustainable and electric mobility something to look forward to for families. Watch a video of the new model here.
