La Régie is set to contend the smaller SUV market with its new Captur crossover, which the French firm believes offers a new blend of hatchback dynamism, feel of an SUV and space of an MPV.
The Captur’s design doesn’t deviate much from the concept mode that made its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Up front is the company’s trademark diamond-shaped logo that dominates the front grille, with LED daytime driving lights and foglamps housed in metallic bumper inserts.
The Captur’s profile is highlighted by its 170 mm ground clearance, and standard alloy wheels (16-inch on the Expression and 17-inch on the Dynamique models). Chrome finishes line the exterior.
Inside the Captur features shell-shaped seats that boasts zip collection covers (on the Dynamique only) and a leather steeting wheel (another Dynamic highlight). The boot capacity totals 377 litres, but with the rear bench slid forward by 160 mm, the amount increases to 455 litres, while maximum utility room with the rear seatbacks folded is 1 235 litres.
The Captur range includes the Expression 66 kW Turbo and Dynamique 66 kW Turbo (both powered by 0,9-litre three-cylinder engine that produces 135 N.m of torque), as well as a range-topping Dynamique 88 kW Turbo EDC which introduces Renault’s new 1,2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 88 kW at 4 900 r/min and 190 N.m of torque at 2 000 r/min and only consumes 5,4-litres/100 km and emits just 125 g/km of CO2. The range topper also uses a six-speed dual clutch transmission, while the aforementioned models use a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Captur boasts a wide range of standard specification, including Renault’s MediaNav infotainment system with 7-inch touchscreen, hands-free key card, front and rear electric windows, auto lights and wipers, climate control and electric side windows.
On the safety front, there’s ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Start Assist, front and side airbags, front seatbelts with pretensioners, and Isofix childseat mounting points on the front passenger seat and on the outer rear seats.
