A fresh report out of India suggests that Renault is developing a new global compact car set to share its platform with the budget-beating Kwid.
According to LiveMint, the new hatchback is being developed by the Renault-Nissan Technical Centre in Chennai and will run on the CMF-A platform already used by the Kwid and the Datsun redi-Go.
Citing unnamed sources “with direct knowledge of the matter”, the Indian publication said that the development would entail an investment of up to $400-million.
The report added that a new compact SUV would likely also later be built on the platform. Both are expected to measure less than four metres in length to take advantage of tax laws in India.
One of the sources told LiveMint that the new models could be previewed by concept cars at Auto Expo 2018 in February.
