It was only a matter of time before Lamborghini gave us the drop-top version of the Huracán. Following the same strategy as with the Gallardo, the open-top version is called the Huracán Spyder.
It seems blue is the colour of choice at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show, as the Spyder show car was covered in this hue, including matching inserts on the seats and selective parts of the cabin.
As expected, the Spyder features most of the design details of the coupé, while the rear deck lid has been changed to accommodate the electrohydraulic cloth roof. The latter is said to be able to open or close in 17 seconds, and more importantly, at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
The engine’s performance is unchanged compared to the hard top. This means that the 5,2-litre, V10 engine still develops 449 kW at 8 250 r/min and 560 N.m at 6 500 r/min.
The dash to 100 km/h takes 3,4 seconds, which is only marginally slower than the 3,2 seconds we achieved when we performance tested the coupé in our November 2014 issue.
Expect local deliveries to arrive in SA during the middle of 2016.
