Seems there is no stopping the growing SUV demand. Apart from luxury, sport and off-road SUVs, the trend is now turning to two-door SUVs. The latest examples being Range Rover’s Evoque Cabriolet, and now Mercedes-Benz’s Concept GLC Coupé.
It was only last year December that the Stuttgart-based company unveiled its BMW X6 competitor in the shape of the GLE Coupé.
So where does the GLC Coupé fits in? This is a smaller car than the GLE Coupé, and is earmarked to compete with BMW’s X4.
The smaller chassis is based on that of the second generation GLK. However, even looking at this concept car, which is very close to production, it is easy to confuse it with its bigger brother.
The concept car has been fitted with a 3,0-litre, V6, biturbo petrol engine developing 270 kW and 520 N.m. The nine-speed automatic transmission sends torque to all four wheels via Mercedes’s 4Matic system.
This concept car will be shown at the Shanghai Auto Show in China this week.
Expect the production of this range to start next year.
