Ever looked at the venerable Hilux and thought “I want more”? Well, a limited run of RHD Converted Toyota Tundra models are now available from the US, although we imagine they come at a hefty price.

Manufactured in America, there aren’t many other markets that need such a large and oversized bakkie in their fleet. This then does not justify manufacturing the model in any configuration other than LHD. Therefore, for the few people based outside the States in a country that requires RHD vehicles, this may just be for you.

Roaming around the streets of South Africa are several oversized Ford bakkies sourced across the Atlantic so this isn’t as impossible as it sounds. Autogroup International now offers RHD Converted Toyota Tundra bakkies with shipping to 40+ countries. The company states: ‘The complete range of the Toyota Tundra is available in right-hand drive including the entry-level SR and onto the SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition and the TRD Pro plus the stunning Capstone.”
The company, which claims to be Leader in LHD to RHD conversion of American SUVs, bakkies and muscle cars seems to have the fit and finish down to the details on the Tundra when it comes to the photos that show the interior.
While it looks like it has just rolled off of the production line as is, what further sets the model apart is its motor. Auto Group International further add: The Tundra’s available i-FORCE MAX engine applies hybrid tech for more performance. By pairing the Twin-Turbo V6 with an electric motor, this hybrid engine generates an electrifying 321 kW with an amazing 790 N.m. With plenty of factory options available, it is possible to customise your right-hand drive Tundra for your specific needs.

Since the customising ability is so vast, no pricing has been listed although a based model Tundra will set buyers back $38 965 (MSRP) (R723 000). With the modifications and import fees to South Africa, we suspect this would cost more than double its retail price making it formidable against any other bakkie available locally, Ranger Raptor too!
Interested in RHD vehicles, just not the Tundra? Well, the company offers several other models in their lineup including the Toyota Sequoia, Ford F-Series, Ford Bronco and Ford F-150 Lightning EV to name a few.
