BMW 3 Series “The best car ever made?”

By: CAR magazine

“The best car ever made!” Which car do you think Richard Hammond was saying this about? If you answered -˜BMW 3 Series’, you’d be correct. At the time he specifically mentioned the 320d; the next year he was in love with the E46. That was back in 2012 and 2013. What would he have to say about BMW’s homage to their 3.0 CSL of the 70s? Well nothing yet, as the concept car is only due to be launched next week (22 May). Here’s a sneak peek-¦

The BMW 3 Series was launched four decades ago with huge advances in design, safety, efficiency and comfort following each successive release. While the first 3 Series drew attention for it’s economical engines and sporty performance. These are still the hallmarks of the Series engines, and thanks to -˜the most advanced chassis in its segment’, the 3 Series still boasts outstanding performance and handling.

And the range offers a model for almost every enthusiast. A press release from the BMW Group notes, -˜The diversity of models has played a significant role in enabling a variety of target groups to experience the sporting character of BMW 3 Series in different ways. The sixth model generation further extends this attractive selection of distinctive body variants, which are now split between two model ranges: the BMW 3 Series Sedan and BMW 3 Series Touring have been joined by the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, and the mid-size model portfolio now also includes the BMW 4 Series Coupe, BMW 4 Series Convertible and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe.

OK. Calling it a legend is probably pushing it, even for fans, but you don’t have to be Richard Hammond to agree that the BMW 3 Series is one of the world’s most successful car model range.
