The upcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale compact SUV’s production has been delayed according to a report based on information sourced from the brand’s new CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato.
Speaking to Automotive News Europe, it was revealed that the Alfa Romeo Tonale’s production, a crucial compact crossover planned for the brand, has been delayed by 12 weeks. The reason for this is Imparato’s demand for better performance from the plug-in hybrid powertrain. This pushes its sales introduction back to early 2022.
Production for the Tonale intends to start at Stellantis group’s Pomigilano plant in March 2022 with a market launch set for June 2022, according to Imparato. Both the Tonale and Jeep compass will use the US Compact Wide underpinnings.
The Tonale isn’t the only product being pushed back by Alfa Romeo. The all-new model that intends to slot under the Tonale, rumoured to be called the Brennero, has been delayed as well. While Imparato confirms that this car will be built in Poland, he declined to comment on the size or launch date of the ‘baby Alfa Romeo’.
Last year, FCA released a statement on its Polish site that it has plans to modernize its plant in Tychy to build hybrid and full-electric Jeeps, Fiats and Alfa Romeos.
