A Changan sports sedan looks to be underway from the Chinese manufacturer in a bid to tackle established models such as the Peugeot 508, Volkswagen Arteon and Kia K5 GT head-on. The new model will form part of the Chinese manufacturer’s premium Uni sub-brand of which a few models have already been released.
Based on information sourced by Kolesa, the Changan sports sedan will adopt a liftback bodystyle and bear the “Uni-V” or “Vangard” moniker. Key design features for the new product includes retractable door handles as seen on its latest SUV offering, distinctive headlamps and two large exhaust pipes. A retractable rear wing has been rumoured for the design as well. Where dimensions are concerned, the Changan sports sedan will be approximately 4 700 mm long which is in line with current segment benchmarks.
No word has been giver regarding the interior but it’s based on sources, the Russian publication states that the cabin will benefit from a large touchscreen infotainment system that flows into a digital display for the driver.
No details regarding powertrain options have been detailed either but on the firm’s current Uni-T offering, two turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines are available. The smaller of the two is a 1,5-litre engine that delivers 132 kW while a larger 2,0-litre tops things off with a power output of 171 kW. The former employs a seven-speed dual clutch transmission while the latter an eight-speed torque converter. If the Changan sports sedan is going to prove its worth in this segment, it’s going to need a bit more power than that.
