Volkswagen is gearing up for a mid-cycle update of its Touareg SUV, which has been in production for two decades. The German automaker recently provided an official preview of the facelifted model, with a batch of speculative renders attempting to reveal the production-ready design cues.
Although the updates are limited to a facelift, there are some significant changes planned for the front and rear of the midsize SUV. The most notable addition will be light bars installed at both ends to modernize its exterior.
The rendered images also show an illuminated badge with a bright red VW logo on the tailgate which aligns itself with other foreign-offered flagships from the German automaker. At the front, the Touareg will feature IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights, with subtle changes planned for both bumpers, along with new wheel designs and fresh paint colors.
Compared to its predecessor, the facelifted Touareg will have a new grille design, with fewer horizontal slats. The rear bumper, diffuser, and exhaust tips will also undergo slight updates. While the interior will have discreet changes to boost quality with softer materials, the general layout will remain the same as the current model.
The headlining change will be the updated infotainment setup, known as the “Innovision Cockpit,” which includes a 15-inch central touchscreen and a 12,3-inch digital instrument cluster. However, it’s unclear whether this will be the standard setup for the facelifted model.
As for the powertrain, details remain unknown, but with the outgoing model already offering a potent 3,0-litre turbo-petrol V6 engine paired with an electric motor making 340 kW of power and 700 N.m of torque, it’s possible that the facelifted version could offer even more power.

The Volkswagen Touareg will be sold exclusively with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volkswagen has scheduled the official release of the facelifted model in the fourth quarter of 2023, with further details to be confirmed at the Touareg’s reveal and leading up to its local introduction.
