Audi has filed an application to trademark a new “R8 Green Hell” badge in Europe, leading to speculation a special-edition Nürburgring-themed variant is on the way.
Automobile magazine unearthed the trademark application, which the Ingolstadt-based firm recently filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
As the publication points out, if Audi does indeed create a special new production model referencing Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, it will likely be a fair bit lighter than the standard version of the supercar. Expect the brand to extract some extra power from the naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 (which already makes 456 kW in flagship Performance guise), too.
Interestingly, Audi’s US division told Automobile it was “not aware of anything with that name”.
