Honda to launch new Ballade-based hatch to replace Jazz in some markets?

By: CAR magazine

A fresh report out of India claims Honda is working on a hatchback version of the City (or, as we know it here in South Africa, the Ballade) sedan.

Autocar India published a set of patent drawings (seemingly first posted by autonetmagz.com and embedded below) purportedly showing the design of the new hatchback.

Judging by the drawings, the upcoming Ballade-based hatch will share much of its front end with the latest version of the saloon, while (as the publication points out) the rear bears a distinct resemblance to that of Mercedes-Benz’s A-Class hatchback.

Expect the hatchback to be offered with the same new turbocharged 1,0-litre, three-cylinder VTEC unit as the new Ballade, sending the front wheels some 90 kW and 173 N.m (the latter between 2 000 and 4 500 r/min).

Interestingly, the as-yet-unnamed Ballade-based hatchback could end up replacing the Jazz in some countries, with the fourth-generation version of the latter seemingly not on the cards for all markets.
