Kia confirms (Seltos-based?) seven-seater MPV is on the cards…

The president and CEO of Kia Motors has confirmed the South Korean firm has plans to build a new seven-seater MPV in India.

Speaking to Autocar India, Han-Woo Park, who heads up Kia Motors globally, suggested the new MPV model would come out of the same Anantapur factory currently building the Seltos and set to add the smaller Sonet soon.

“We are now thinking about another MPV. As you know, Kia is a very strong SUV and MPV player. So the next one I’m considering is another MPV model for Indian customers,” said Park, suggesting the new model would slot in below the Grand Sedona (or what India knows as the Carnival).

The report suggested the new MPV would be based on the same platform as the Seltos, which also underpins the new Hyundai Creta.

“It won’t compete with the Seltos and will be slightly bigger than the Seltos, and below the Carnival. It will have an affordable price and adequate space for seven seats,” he said.

Will the new model be offered locally? Well, it’s not yet clear whether such a vehicle would fit into Kia Motors South Africa’s broader plans but from what we heard at the recent launch of the Seltos, the firm’s local distributor certainly has the ear of the Indian arm’s exporter…
