A Lexus super subcompact crossover has been rumoured to slot in under the current UX in an attempt to further diversify its global SUV offering. The new model may adopt Toyota’s TNGA-B platform currently used by the Yaris Cross and could be sold in international markets.
Based on information sourced by Lexus Enthusiast from an automotive magazine sold in Japan, this new Lexus super subcompact crossover is likely to adopt the same naturally aspirated 1,5-litree three-cylinder engine found in the current generation Toyota Yaris. This unit delivers 67 kW and 120 N.m of torque to the wheels via a CVT.
The idea of a Lexus super subcompact crossover was hinted at when the brand revealed its LF-SA city car concept at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2015. This 2+2 crossover sports a length of 3 400 mm, length of 1 700 mm and height of 1 430 mm and was designed for high maneuverability and agility for extra-urban driving.
If it makes use of the Yaris Cross however, the Lexus super subcompact crossover could measure somewhere closer to 4 180 mm long, 1 765 mm wide and 1 590 tall. This is quite a means smaller than the current UX which boasts a length, width and height figure of 4 495 mm, 1 840 mm and 1 540 mm respectfully.
The Toyota Yaris Cross is currently only being sold in the European, Japanese and Australian markets. The report suggests that this new product from Lexus will likely be exclusive to those markets as well.
This information reflects information covered by a report last year which suggested that the new product would bear the “BX” moniker and also be supported by Toyota’s AWD-i system currently seen on the Yaris Cross Hybrid. It also hinted that most of its styling cues will be carried over from the current UX.
