Fresh information out of South Korea seemingly shows the upcoming Hyundai Tucson N will be powered by the firm’s new turbocharged 2,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine.
Hyundai recently released the first official images of its next-generation Tucson, while also confirming a full reveal would take place on 15 September 2020.
Now, according to a fresh post on autospy.net, the engine line-up has seemingly been laid bare. The most interesting detail is the listing of the long-rumoured Tucson N, which the report claims will offer 213 kW and 422 N.m.
This “Smartstream” 2,5-litre T-GDi engine is, of course, already used in certain Hyundai Motor Group products, including a US-specific version of the facelifted Kia Stinger (where it makes 224 kW) and the Genesis G80 (where it delivers 207 kW).
This latest report, however, doesn’t line up with an earlier rumour suggesting the upcoming Tucson N would develop around 250 kW and thus outmuscle the new Volkswagen Tiguan R.
The folks over at autospy.net furthermore claim the standard Tucson will be offered with a 132 kW turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol engine, with a mid-tier N Line version combining this engine with a hybrid system (for a peak output of 169 kW).
According to the publication, production of the Tucson will commence on 14 September (the day before its reveal), with the hybrid variant following on 28 September.
