Now that the Volkswagen Golf 8 has officially made its debut, the wait for the new GTI starts. And digital artist X-Tomi Design has already imagined the upcoming hot hatch...
The rendering alongside shows the eighth-generation Golf wearing the requisite GTI design cues, from large alloys (shod in low-profile rubber) to the red stripe running through the grille and headlamps.
There’s also a new front lower-facia design, “GTI” badging on the front fenders and black side-mirror caps. Unfortunately, the digital artist hasn’t given us a rear view.
VW has already announced the performance variants in the new Golf range will be revealed “over the course of the next year”, with power for the Golf GTI, Golf GTI TCR and Golf R again coming from a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (in various states of tune, of course).
Interestingly, the new GTI is scheduled to be the first Golf 8 derivative to arrive in South Africa “late in 2020”, with a 110 kW Golf 1,4 TSI and the range-topping R model following.
