A fresh report out of the United Kingdom claims the Nissan Navara will be pulled from sale in Europe in “early 2022”.
This echoes a report from May 2020 suggesting the automaker would axe both the Navara and GT-R in Europe as it “scaled back” its business on that continent as part of a three-year cost-cutting plan.
According to Professional Pickup & 4×4’s “insiders”, the Japanese firm will continue to offer the pre-facelift version of the bakkie in Europe until that date.
A Nissan spokesperson confirmed to the British publication the refreshed Navara would “not be on sale throughout Europe”, but added the company would “continue to sell the current European Navara model, which is produced at the Barcelona plant”.
The spokesperson insisted Nissan was “not announcing the end of Navara for Europe”.
“Navara is an important product and the Navara currently sold in Europe meets the needs of our consumers. Future product plans will be announced in due course,” the official said.
Europe currently sources its Navara from the Barcelona factory in Spain, but that plant is scheduled to shut down at the end of 2021, bringing an end to Navara production on the continent. For the record, the bakkie is also built in Thailand.
Of course, production of the facelifted Navara is scheduled to start at Rosslyn in South Africa in June 2021. However, Professional Pickup & 4×4 claims this factory will service only the African continent, for the time being, at least.
