Raptor-lite? Ford is reportedly planning new Ranger ‘FX4 Max’ bakkie…

By: CAR magazine

A fresh report out of Australia claims Ford is preparing a new “FX4 Max” off-roading variant for its Ranger line-up.

According to GoAuto.com, the company has filed to trademark the “FX4 Max” name in Australia, with the newcomer likely to slot in below the full-fat Raptor but above the Wildtrak.

The publication claims the rumoured new derivative will feature “a variety of modifications for more extreme off-roading” along with a smattering of styling updates (rather than just the latter, as was the case with the FX4 package offered in South Africa).

Of course, the Ranger sold in North America can already been fitted with an FX4 off-road package that adds a suspension upgrade, all-terrain rubber, an electronic locking differential and skid plates, hinting at what could be in store should the new model make it to production.

If it does end up launching Down Under, it remains to be seen whether the FX4 Max derivative would join the locally built range here in South Africa.
