A fresh report out of Argentina suggests Toyota plans to roll out an updated version of the Hilux GR Sport variant by the end of 2021.
Before the latest revisions to the bakkie range, the Hilux was offered in GR Sport guise, gaining suspension upgrades and cosmetic enhancements but no extra oomph. The facelifted line-up, however, currently does not include such a variant.
Ignacio Limpenny, sales and marketing director at Toyota Argentina, told 16 Valvulas the Toyota Gazoo Racing division was planning to present the refreshed Hilux GR Sport late in 2021.
This derivative, of course, is distinct from the long-rumoured full-fat GR Hilux, which is expected to arrive only with the next-generation range from 2023. According to reports, this model will employ Toyota’s “all-new” 3,3-litre V6 turbodiesel engine.
Interestingly, Limpenny also confirmed the company was “exploring the possibility” of a hybrid Hilux, echoing earlier comments from a Toyota executive in Australia.
