Since the unveiling of Hyundai’s supermini, the current i20 has been a popular car, and now South Africans can look forward to being surprised by the new Hyundai i20.
But apparently it won’t be just another updated model, with the second generation i20, Hyundai took things up a notch or two. Compared to its popular forerunner, the all-new 2015 Hyundai i20 is better styled, boasts improved cabin materials, as well as added tech.
As Auto Evolution reported, the upcoming Hyundai i20 is expected to pose a threat to the classics of the segment, namely the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta. As such, the 2015 Hyundai i20 features a floating-roof design to look more dynamic than its rivals, a wheelbase that offers sufficient space for five, the largest boot in its class and LED lights all around.
The engine of the Hyundai will reportedly also be on par with the the Ford Motor Company’s highly acclaimed 1-liter EcoBoost turbo three-pot.
Currently assembled in the Hyundai plant in Turkey, a recent report hints at an estate (Wagon) variant and a three-door version that will be available as well.
The Hyundai i20 is set to launch in South Africa during the month of February. The coupe however will only be available later. On top of that, Hyundai will also be launching a hot hatch variant of the i20 Coupe developed by the N performance division, which will most likely be animated by a turbo 1.6 similar to the one used by the Veloster Turbo.
