The new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in the second quarter of 2019. How much will the Affalterbach-built four-door fastback set you back? Well, we have local pricing for the two-model range (no sign of the so-called "entry-level" GT43 for SA so far).
The all-wheel-drive Mercedes-AMG GT53 (pictured below) will start at R1 949 700, before CO2 emissions tax. As a reminder, this derivative employs the German brand’s 3,0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, boasting 320 kW and 520 N.m.
The turbocharged six-pot is supported by a boost effect with an output of up to 16 kW and 250 N.m, courtesy of the new 48-volt on-board power supply. This model’s claimed 0-100 km/h time is 4,5 seconds, with a top speed of 285 km/h.
And the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S 4Matic+? Well, the flagship model will be priced from R2 905 200 (again, before CO2 tax). Under the bonnet you’ll find a 4,0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine, delivering a whopping 470 kW and 900 N.m. This translates to a claimed zero to 100 km/h time of just 3,2 seconds and a top speed of 315 km/h.
Interestingly, the eight-cylinder model features a nine-speed automatic transmission with a wet clutch and launch control, while the six-cylinder derivative is coupled with nine-speed automatic torque converter transmission.
Inside the GT 4-Door Coupé, you’ll find two high-resolution displays, each measuring 12,3 inches (standard in the V8 models and optional in the six-cylinder version). The four-door AMG GT offers different seating configurations, ranging from an asymmetrically folding rear bench seat for the family to variants with two individual seats.
The boot capacity measures in at a claimed 395 litres, and is supplemented by a further 60 litres beneath the boot floor. With the backrests folded down, the capacity increased to a claimed 1 324 litres.
