Mercedes-Benz has fully revealed the interior of its new EQS, with the upcoming fully electric saloon’s cabin positively dominated by screens.
Described as the “luxurious and avant-garde top-of-the-range model from Mercedes-EQ”, the German firm says it has “taken completely new approach to the interior design” with the newcomer.
The optional MBUX Hyperscreen, for instance, effectively comprises several merged displays, resulting in a massive screen measuring some 1 410 mm wide (so, from pillar to pillar). Air vents are integrated into the large digital surface.
The Stuttgart-based company says the “real glass appears to drape itself in three dimensions” over the width of the cabin “like a wave”. The MBUX Hyperscreen is surrounded by a thin silver shadow frame, a vent band and a narrow leather frame.
The front passenger gains a dedicated display and operating area, which becomes a “digital decorative part” (displaying animated stars) when the passenger seat is not occupied. Up to seven passenger profiles can be created.
Interestingly, the front section of the centre console joins the instrument panel and “stands freely in space” (thanks to the electric powertrain, no traditional transmission tunnel is necessary). The base model without the MBUX Hyperscreen, though, has a different centre console design.
Worried about what would happen in the event of a crash? Well, the Stuttgart-based company says it has included “predetermined breaking points” alongside the side outlet openings as well as five holders, which “can yield in a targeted manner” in a crash.
While Mercedes says the “functional content and operating structure” correspond with those of the S-Class, they have been “adapted to electric motoring”. All graphics, for instance, feature a new colour combination, while the traditional cockpit display of two round dials has been “reinterpreted with a digital laser sword in a glass lens”.
