Yes, the seemingly endless teaser campaign continues. This time, McLaren has released video footage of its 650S successor being put through its paces on a track, including plenty of obligatory drifting.
The British automaker has also revealed that the second-generation Super Series model will be capable of braking from 200 km/h to standstill in just 4,6 seconds. This takes place in just 117 metres, six less than the 650S and almost on par with the P1.
How did the brand achieve this? Well, it used lighter, stiffer brake calipers, added carbon-ceramic discs (which will be standard) and “optimised” brake pedal feel and modulation.
Tyre performance, naturally, is also critical in this regard. Working with Pirelli, McLaren engineers say they developed a bespoke P Zero Corsa tyre for the second-generation Super Series that delivers a 6% improvement in mechanical grip compared to the 650S.
“As well as delivering the outstanding driver involvement and enjoyment for which the brand is renowned, McLaren’s new supercar will also excel in everyday driving,” McLaren Automotive chief test driver, Chris Goodwin, promised.
“The extreme performance and dynamic prowess of the second-generation Super Series, honed by testing at the limits and beyond, provides the perfect foundation for it to be the most complete supercar across the full range of use.”
The official reveal will take place on March 7 at the Geneva Motor Show. Watch the footage below…
