During the winter months traffic slows down on wet roads, and we all get used to a more deliberate driving style – it’s an easy habit to get into. But spring is just around the corner, the roads are drier and the rest of the world is picking up the pace – it’s time to shake off that (mental) winter slump at Killarney’s Street Car Track Day from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday 27 August.
It’s time to get into driving your car up to a standard rather than down to a speed limit, time to sharpen your driving; it’s a road safety thing, as well as a whole lotta fun! But it’s mostly an internal adjustment; modern cars are very comfortable and astonishingly capable, and it very easy to get lulled into a false sense of security on the road. The warmer weather that comes with spring is also a wake-up call.
You’ll find drivers at our track days in ordinary road cars – about as far from the popular conception of a ‘sports car’ as you can get – as well as enthusiasts in performance cars, chatting about safety aspects with our experienced instructors and then putting them into practice during the next track session. And between sessions there’s always hot coffee and delicious snacks in the Joubert Pits Lounge overlooking the main straight.
The cost for drivers is R550 for Western Province Motor Club members and R690 for non-members, while the cost for passengers is R200 each, whether or not they are Club members.
Pre-booking is recommended for both drivers and passengers to avoid long queues and rushed paperwork, and crash helmets are compulsory; please bring your own as we are unable to supply helmets due to Covid-19 Regulations.
You may bring as many ‘crew members’ as you wish, and you’re all welcome to walk across the bridge to the Joubert Pits Lounge, with superb elevated views of the circuit – and an overview of the children’s play area right next door, so you can watch your junior team members having fun.
Thanks to our lucky draw sponsors, Peninsula Beverages and Tyre Zone, we have lots of spot prizes and Killarney memorabilia to give away – just remember you have to be there at the drivers’ briefing in the morning to claim your prize!
