South Africa’s best-selling double-cab bakkies in January 2021

We’ve managed to get our hands on double-cab bakkie sales statistics for January 2021, allowing us to see which model is the first to push ahead in South Africa’s sales race for the year.

While Naamsa no longer releases individual model sales figures to the public, a record of sales by body style is indeed kept. Thanks to our studious friends over at Lightstone Auto, we’re able to shed some light on the matter.

According to Lightstone Auto, the Toyota Hilux is leading the double-cab pack after the first month of 2021, with 1 290 units registered. The Ford Ranger is close behind in second place with 1 161 units. The Isuzu D-Max is third after January 2021, with 425 double-cab units sold.

Interestingly, the single-cab race is also led by the Hilux (907), which is some way ahead of the D-Max (438), Mahindra Pik Up (259) and Ranger (192).

As a reminder, the Hilux was the best-selling double-cab bakkie in the country for 2020, retaining its 2019 crown. The Japanese firm’s local arm registered 15 339 Hilux double-cab units during the year, just 845 units ahead of the Ranger (14 494 units). The D-Max (5 562) completed the double-cab podium.
