SVI Engineering, a specialist manufacturer of armoured products has delivered its first armoured Ford Ranger Raptor. This is the first Raptor armoured under the Ford-approved armouring scheme that allows customers to order the armouring package from Ford dealerships.
According to Quickpic, B4 offers bullet-resistant protection against handguns up to a 44 Magnum. It is an anti-hijack solution that also offers protection against brick-throwing and other hand-held projectiles.
The protection package features 18-21 mm armoured glass in combination with Kevlar sheets (lightweight, impact-resistant, abrasion resistant, heat resistant) for the body.
It is lightweight with minimal impact on vehicle acceleration, fuel consumption and dynamic performance. This is a key factor in the case of the Raptor because of its off-road prowess of the vehicle standard out of the box with its Fox suspension set-up.
However, Food South Africa decided to not approve the high B6 (assault rifle) armouring level on the Raptor because of its lower payload when it was compared to other Double Cab Ranger models for which B6 is approved.
The build time of a B4 armoured Ranger Raptor is roughly around 10 weeks.
