To the naked eye, this looks like any other Land Cruiser Prado on the roads and that is because South African armoured-vehicle specialist SVI Engineering has developed a discreet B6 protection package for the new Toyota.

The B6 rating signifies protection against assault rifle fire, including rounds from AK47, R1, and R5 rifles. SVI’s solution for the J250-generation Prado builds on the popularity the previous model had among their clientele, leveraging the new Prado’s advancements and robust TNGA-F platform.
SVI’s engineering team has designed the armouring package to seamlessly integrate with the Prado’s existing structure. The package provides 360-degree protection using custom-fabricated armoured steel plates, composite materials and 38 mm-thick ballistic glass. A key feature is the inclusion of ballistic overlaps, not only around the doors and side windows, but also around the windscreen.
Cost and weight considerations are addressed through the inclusion of an armoured rear bulkhead with an escape hatch, positioned behind the second row of seats. Importantly, SVI’s design ensures that the vehicle’s driver-assistance and safety systems, including those reliant on windscreen-mounted sensors, remain fully functional after the conversion.

The Prado’s 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 150 kW and 500 N.m, is deemed capable of handling the additional weight of the armouring. To compensate for this added mass, SVI includes a suspension upgrade and uprated door hinges as standard. This ensures the vehicle maintains its handling characteristics and structural integrity despite the significant modifications.
