The upcoming Subaru Solterra is said to be the most technologically advanced product from the Japanese brand, ever. The new crossover will come as standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which would suggest a two-motor powertrain; however, no details have emerged yet regarding the range and battery.
Subaru’s first all-electric SUV, the Solterra will be built on the e-Subaru Global Platform, offering generous amounts of back-seat and luggage space and the ability to explore nature without leaving an impact.
Featuring state-of-the-art safety technology and the tried and tested Subaru recipe of ample ground clearance and Symmetrical all-wheel drive, the Solterra will exhibit true Subaru DNA while also signalling the Nipponese manufacturer’s intentions for the future. The crossover is scheduled to go on sale during the course of 2022.
Interestingly, from the teaser images it bears an uncanny resemblance to Toyota’s upcoming BZ4X, both inside and out. It’ll be interesting to see how Subaru differentiates the Solterra from Toyota’s BZ4X, something worth considering when entering into a market such as ours where Toyota’s are revered so. They might have to do a little more than some badge engineering in this case…
It is worth noting that of all of the Subaru vehicles produced in the last 10 years, 96% are still on the road today, an indication that the new model will be a quality product designed to last for generations to come.
There’s no word yet from Subaru South Africa on local availability of the Solterra.
