This is the Consumer, and it is a literal concept, thought up by a small team of designers lead by Joey Ruiter. Both the design and mechanical layout appears to be overtly simplistic but in some way, still quite appeasing.
At the surface, there’s not much going on with the design. The Consumer makes use of a box-shaped body with a small windscreen, no roof or doors (side-steps are used to climb inside) and hidden wheels.
While the hood is composed of faceted steel, the material used to cover the rest of the Consumer is an advanced plastic compound called Xorel.
Oddly, the front makes use of a two-way mirror surrounded by the thin air intake system. Behind this mirror lies 54 000 LEDs which point downwards in order to not blind oncoming motorists.
Ruiters says that the overall design is intented to “consume everything” such as light, darkness, air and space.
There’s no word on what engine it uses but Ruiters confirms that the Consumer is front-wheel drive. With its small wheelbase of 2 286 mm and overall weight of 567 kg, it should be a nippy little machine to pilot.
Don’t forget your helmet.
