In addition to sub-brand Riddara entering the South African market, Geely has confirmed that it plans to relaunch in Mzansi by the end of 2025. The Chinese automotive giant, which also owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and Smart, among others, was last seen here a decade ago. However, with changing market conditions and locals now warming to Chinese brands, Geely will again operate as a standalone name and not just influence the industry through its many sub-brands.

Geely’s product offensive is still unclear, but speculation is rife that New Energy Vehicles and ICE (internal combustion engines) will be on offer. This may include the fully electric EX5 and Atlas (NEV). A particular point of interest is Geely’s pure-electric sub-brand Zeekr. This EV brand has been around since October 2021, but its premium position and accompanying price may mean an unlikely release in SA. Still, stranger things have happened…
