Touted as the future of overlanding, the GMC Hummer EV has received a slew of EarthCruiser upgrades that have morphed it into an apartment on wheels.

A zero tailpipe emissions overlander – it’s a very niche product. Atop the Hummer EV’s frame, and replacing the modular Sky Panles, is a carbon fibre EarthCruiser body with a three-layered extendable roof, which adds roughly 2,9 metres when fully extended and 2,2 metres in its stowed-away position for driving. In terms of space, the EarthCruiser apartment has 2 032 mm of space from the floor to the roof at the entry, which diminishes to 1 930 mm in the “hallway,” and 889 mm in the bed area.

The interior of the EarthCruiser mini-house features a stainless steel sink, an induction stovetop, a full-size bed with under-bed storage, filtered and unfiltered water, a 7,0-inch touchscreen control interface, a fridge, dimmable interior lighting, 1500W inverter, an onboard 12V water heater and a few storage drawers and cabinets.
The exterior is accessorised with an outdoor shower, a recovery gear storage compartment, an access point for filtered water, lockable utility hook-up points, additional scene lights, a keypad to control lighting and systems, a 19-litre filtered water tank and 26-litre grey water tank. The most notable addition to the exterior is the 605-watt solar panels, which EarthCruiser claims can provide enough power to get lost in the depths of whatever backwater place you may end up in for up to seven days. Additionally, the solar panels are assisted by six 12V lithium batteries.

To recap the essential characteristics of the Hummer EV, the model is powered by three electric motors affording the more than four-tonne double cab with a power output of up to 745 kW/ 15 000 N.m! The max range is estimated at 613 km in the EV3X derivative.
