Roush Performance has revealed its new Ford F-150-based “street performance” pick-up, again dubbing it the “Nitemare”.
This latest model to receive the Roush treatment is equipped with the American tuner’s TVS R2650 supercharger package, a high-flow air filter, a revised ECU and a cat-back exhaust system. This means the 5,0-litre V8 powerplant, originally producing 295 kW and 542 N.m of torque, now delivers a whopping 484 kW and 826 N.m.
According to the Michigan-based company, the Nitemare is “developed with race technology in mind”. Performance figures have yet to be released.
Staying true to its moniker, the model seen here is dressed in “Shadow Black” paint, making it look ever so stealthy. Other body paint options include Race Red and a more conservative Oxford White, available at no extra cost. However, add the optional dual-tip active exhaust system and this pick-up will certainly be noticed.
Using the centre-console-mounted dial (or Roush’s Active Exhaust smartphone app), the driver can switch between four valve settings (touring, wide-open, sport and custom).
At the front, the original grille has been replaced with a blacked-out Roush-branded unit featuring the tuner’s signature accent lighting (and is compatible with Ford’s adaptive cruise control system).
A smattering of Roush graphics is found round the exterior, with the tuner’s name stretched across the top-end of the windscreen (plenty of patriotism is on display, too, courtesy of a Stars-and-Stripes decal). Meanwhile, the red “hockey stick graphics” featured on the side of this model can be swapped out for “Sin City Silver” items.
Contributing to its menacing looks, the Nitemare rides on a set of custom 22-inch wheels wrapped in Continental Crosscontact LX20 285/45 R22 tyres to provide “maximum grip with limited slip”.
The starting price for this upgrade is $16 999 (that’s R242 680,27 at the current exchange rate). Add that to the price of the cheapest standard F-150 currently on offer (at $51 930 or the equivalent of R745 089,04) and the Nitemare will cost some R987 769,31.
Seeing that this pick-up is not for sale in South Africa, this upgrade will not be available on local shores. However, a Roush Stage 1, 2 or 3 kit can be added to the 3,2-litre turbo-diesel Ford Ranger offered locally.
