Toyota SA details Hilux’s ‘reimagined’ Raider variants (with pricing)

By: CAR magazine

Back in October 2020, when Toyota South Africa Motors updated its Hilux range, the company provided only basic details of the “reimagined” Raider variants. Now, however, that’s changed.

At the time, we managed to dig up some images showing the Hilux in Raider specification, but details were scarce. Now Toyota SA Motors has released extra information about its Raider line-up, which effectively replaced the old SRX range.

The Japanese firm’s local arm says the previous mid-tier SRX grade had moved “closer and closer into traditional Raider territory, somewhat blurring the lines between the mid-grade and top-grade models”. So, when it launched the high-spec Legend model, it decided to “optimise the model-line up”.

The new Raider adopts the latest Hilux’s face (the basic S and SR models retain the outgoing bakkie’s front end), though the chrome treatment for the grille frame is specific to the Raider. The previous 18-inch wheels have been ditched in favour of graphite-coloured 17-inch items wrapped in 265/65 R17 tyres.

Both the 2,4 GD-6 engine (110 kW/400 N.m) and the upgraded 2,8 GD-6 unit (150 kW/500 N.m) are offered in the Raider line-up. In single- and double-cab guise, the 2,4 GD-6 is available in both Raised Body (4×2) and 4×4 configuration. The 2,8 GD-6 is offered as either Raised Body or 4×4 and coupled with the six-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The Xtra-cab variants feature a “simplified” two-model line-up, which Toyota SA Motors says is “in line with market trends”.

New standard features include park distance control, extra airbags, LED foglamps for 2,4 models, and full-LED headlamps and taillights for 2,8 variants. An auto limited-slip diff has also been added to the Raider specification list. Inside, you’ll find an eight-inch infotainment screen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality) along with an enlarged multi-information display and the latest instrument cluster design.

As with the rest of the Hilux range, a three-year/100 000 km warranty is included, along with a nine-service/90 000 km service plan. Check out the latest Raider prices below…
