It seems that the new car market is back at its equilibrium after Toyota South Africa topped the sales charts of July once again with a market share of 16,3%. Additionally, the new passenger car market has improved by 50,2% from the year before.
Back on track for Prospecton Plant
Ravaged by flooding earlier on in the year while coping with the lingering effects of stock shortages meant that Toyota South Africa has been on the back foot for the past few months. With production slowly resuming at the Prospecton Plant in Durban, it looks as though Toyota will start competing for the top spot of the sales charts, as it was before.

After suspending operations at the plant on the 12th of April due to excessive flood damage, the past few months have become instrumental for Toyota to get back to their local dominance. The Catalytic Converter Exhaust Export facility resumed operations as early as the 9th of May with the Hino plant going online on the 24th of May, and finally, the Hilux and Fortuner lines restarting on the 21st of July. The Corolla Cross was back up and running last week with Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) on schedule to commence operations of the Corolla Quest this month.
Toyota’s key sales charts performers in July 2022
With an aggregate of 7 110 units sold in the month of July, Toyota achieved an impressive 16,3% market share after the industry total rose to 43 593 units. Key performers for Toyota include are as follows:Pro

With this tally, TSAM has sold 71 111 vehicles to date in 2022, despite ill fortune and supply issues. Leon Theron, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at TSAM, states that the local favortie automaker is still committed to their 2022 sales target of 131 000 units.
With production at Prospection expected to return to pre-flood numbers by the end of September, we could have a guess that they will easily manage their target.
