In June, Toyota’s Hilux stood above all in the bakkie/ LCV segment, and it seems that lead has remained true for July.

These are the top five best-selling bakkies in July 2023:
- Toyota Hilux: 2 982 units
- Ford Ranger: 2 089 units
- Isuzu D-Max: 1 542 units
- Nissan NP200: 1 041 units
- Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up: 662 units

- GWM P-Series: rose from 430 units in June to 642 units in July and just missed a spot in this list.
The LCV segment has experienced an increase of 3 114 units representing a 32,6%. This increase drives the total number of light commercial vehicles sold in July to 12 666 units compared to the 9 552 units sold in the same period last year. Compared to the previous month, the number of units sold locally has decreased by 1 272 units.

In June, Toyota reported that its Hilux model sold over 3 792 units and subsequently dropped by nearly 1 000 units. Contrasting the sharp decline in Hilux sales is the steady stream of Ford Ranger sales which have only dropped by a mere 10 units compared to June’s results. Elsewhere in the light commercial vehicle segment, Isuzu has also experienced a slight decline in sales from 1 953 units to 1 542 units. Interestingly, Mahindra’s figures have remained undisturbed compared to figures released in June.
In terms of overall performance in the LCV segment, Toyota leads the pack with a total of 4 879 units sold followed by Ford reportedly selling 2 135 light commercial vehicles, and in third place is Isuzu, with a reported 1 555 light commercial vehicles sold. Aside from the aforementioned brands are Nissan and Mahindra, which sold 1 475 and 676 LCVs respectively. In June, Toyota’s figures stood at 5,655 units, Ford reported selling 2 214 units, and Isuzu has recorded selling a total of 1 953 light commercial vehicles.
