In a bid to continue regaining the over R170 million Hamilton Ndlovu gained through unlawful PPE tenders during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the government has now auctioned off the Johannesburg businessman’s car collection. This was reportedly the government’s third attempt to regain the R172 million Ndlovu received for the 19 ill-gotten PPE (personal protective equipment) tenders granted to him by the NHLS (National Health Laboratory Service) during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Following acquiring the money, in the same year, Ndlovu comically posted a video of his car collection, which comprised a Lamborghini Urus and a trio of Porsches, a Cayenne S Coupé, Panamera GTS and 911 Carrera Cabriolet, all of which have now been put under the hammer.
By 2023, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), who found that only R15 million (of the money Ndlovu received) was used to purchase the equipment, and NHLS announced they had, following a similar preservation order obtained by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to seize R60 million, been granted an order by the Special Tribunal to freeze R42 million of funds and properties linked to the Johannesburg businessman.

The auction (for Ndlovu’s car collection) was set to take place on 5 July, 2023. However, the auction was postponed until 28 August, 2024.
So, how much did each car fetch when going under the hammer at Park Village Auctions in Johannesburg? Well, for starters, Ndlovu’s 2019 Urus, with a mileage of 31 395 km, was sold for R4 350 000. The 2019 Panamera GTS, with a mileage of 45 459 km, 2020 Cayenne S Coupé, with a mileage of 64 470 km, and Carrera Cabriolet, with a mileage of 46 276 km, sold for R1 360 000, R1 230 000 and R1 800 000, respectively.
“The realisation of this auction not only brings this matter closer to finality but enables justice to be served,” said Clive Lazarus, Director of Park Village Auctions. Lazarus mentioned the curator is satisfied with the results, which will now be submitted to SARS for final approval.
