The Volkswagen Arteon is one of those underrated cars that struggled to lure buyers away from other German sedans in South Africa, despite its striking looks and all-round competence.
Volkswagen may have discontinued the Arteon in South Africa, due to slow sales, but it’s still going relatively strong in other markets such as the USA, where this bright green concept was recently concocted.
Volkswagen USA has unveiled the Arteon ‘Big Sur’ Concept as part of its 2021 Enthusiast Fleet family. Boasting a striking green wrap, the show car was inspired by the Californian coastline.
Designed by four Volkswagen enthusiasts and specialists, the Areteon Big Sur features an eye-catching green vinyl wrap, as well as gloss-black 20-inch Rotiform TUF-R wheels. The wrap has been applied throughout the vehicle, including its interior door jambs and side body pieces, and it was inspired by the all-green Golf R that Rotiform showed off at Sema in 2019.
The Big Sur also sports a custom body kit featuring a unique front splitter, side skirts and spoilers. Furthermore, a coilover suspension system has been fitted to give it a lower stance.
“We wanted the car to stop people in their tracks, and announce, ‘I’m here!’” said Gil Plasencia of FMS Automotive, which helped design the concept.
“I’m really proud of the amount of detail and attention we put into it,” Plasencia added.
“We took all the doors off the vehicle – the hatch, the hood – and spent a good 50 to 60 hours to ensure it was all perfect. Looking at a distance, it looks like it’s a paint job.”
No performance mods have been mentioned so we’re assuming that what’s under the bonnet is the stock 2-litre turbopetrol, which produces 200 kW.
