Volkswagen South Africa has launched a special-edition, gravel-ready version of its Caravelle, which wears the PanAmericana badge.
Priced at R955 400, the Caravelle PanAmericana comes fitted with VW’s familiar 2,0 BiTDI engine, which sends 132 kW and 400 N.m to all four corners (thanks to the standard 4Motion all-wheel-drive system) via a seven-speed DSG transmission. The Wolfsburg-based brand claims a zero to 100 km/h time of 12,1 seconds and a top speed of 188 km/h.
Visually, the PanAmericana is set apart from its Caravelle siblings by a “textured finish” (in a “Nucleus Grey” hue) applied to the front and rear bumpers, plus underbody protection (fore and aft), stone-guard film (along the vehicle’s flanks), extra side-sill attachments and 17-inch “Devonport” alloy wheels. Other distinguishing features include tinted rear windows, smoked LED taillamps, a chrome grille and “PanAmericana” logos on the B-pillars.
Inside, you’ll find a multifunctional leather steering wheel, a leather gearshift knob, climate control and entry lights complete with “PanAmericana” lettering. This model furthermore gains rubber floor mats plus seats boasting black-and-white inserts, Alcantara pads and edging seams in a contrasting colour. Optional bi-colour leather trim, as seen in one of the images above, is also available.
The new Caravelle PanAmericana comes standard with a three-year/120 000 km warranty plus a five-year/60 000 km maintenance plan (with service intervals of 15 000 km).
