German automaker Volkswagen reportedly discovered an unexploded American bomb at its Wolfsburg factory earlier this week.
According to local news agencies, the 1940s explosive device was quickly defused, although some 700 people in the surrounding area were first evacuated.
VW started searching the area for World War II bombs after construction crews discovered various fragments of metal in the area. The bomb was reportedly found nearly six metres underground.
A number of undetonated bombs have been discovered near the factory over the years, since the area was a key target for American aircraft during the war.
